I have an old tank (one unthought had cracked in previous thread) and I'm currently in the process if re-sealing.

With it being on old tank it's been knocked about a bit and has some minor chips on corners ect.

The bottom is a single piece of glad and not doubled like newer tanks are, could I reinforce the four bottom corners by sealing a 3 inch square of glass into each corner on the bottom pane, also as it was built as braceless I'm thinking of putting some 3 inch braces front to back or on front and back on the top rim to add some extra strength for my peace of mind.

What do you guys think ? Not worth it or worth the peace of mind ?

Hope u understand my explanation

The braces would add structural rigidity front to back but IMHO if the tank didnt come with them and the glass is of sufficient thickness I would omit them. The weakest link would be the silicone unless you make the crossmember out of one piece. Regarding the four 3" plates in each corner this may create additional stress due to uneven distribution.

If the bottom needs beefing up it would probably be easiest with a single sheet of glass or granite on the bottom outside of the tank. If the trim runs along the underside perimeter of the tank (as some older tanks do), you may have to flip the tank over and cut back the trim to expose only glass. Then flip it back over and set it on the new glass. This way you will have two sheets of glass covering the entire bottom.

The chips can be repaired using WO 40/42 in the same manner windshield chips are fixed.

I would look into euro bracing if the tank is braceless but you want to add.
