Hello Everyone

I was a poster in the mid 2000s. After a break of 3 years I am back in the hobby. I have acquired a 60x18x21 100g tank.

It is stocked with:

1 2inch Oscar
4 quarter to .50 cent piece Silver Dollars (Red Hooks?)
1 2 inch pleco

I have never had SDs before and am feeding Red Algae, flakes, and spinach. Any suggestions?

Running a large Marineland HOB andba rena xp4 canister

Looking forward to posting again!

Sounds like a great tank and set-up, when I had silver dollars they would eat anything, pretty sure that included lettuce, zuccini and cucumber; along with regular tank foods so you can't go wrong.

I wonder if the red algae would help colour them up, or if its a moot point, I'm sure someone will chime in.

Welcome back.

I don't think it matters with food for SD's, they will eat bout any food. If your oscar is like mine, wait for him to spit out food from gills and SD's will get that.

Welcome back. I know the feeling of being out of the hobby for a few years. With the silver dollars, my girlfriend has 14 in her 150. They eat everything and anything. Main diet is flake food and shrimp pellets. And as of recently, we found out that they love cichlid bio gold. For the life of me I can't remember how to spell who makes it, bit it sounds like Hiroyuki I believe. Best of luck, I'm sure many of us would love to see the fish and set up as well.

Thanks guys! bought all SDs the pet store had. I will be going back to see if they have more.. I feed hikiri bio gold plus small pellets to the Oscar.

I was afraid they would eat my Java fern but we are 2weeks in and it is fine. I will post pictures later.
