I found some old Whisper filters of mine, and rather than not using them, it would be cool if I could add them to some of my smaller tanks for some additional filtration.

PROBLEM IS, They're both missing the black sponge part that usually goes in front of the filter cartridge.
Is there anything I can replace this with? Because I haven't seen any for sale in stores. Could I use a regular sponge or the green pan scouring things?

Thoughts would be greatly appreciated :D!

The filters are for a 10 gallon tank and a 20 gallon tank I believe.

You should be able to put just about anything in there (that's safe for the fish of course). I use some of the more current whisper filters on my smaller tanks and I don't use anything that they sell as replacements. Usually just stuff them full of whatever I want/need for the tank. Any sponge will work, I typically use the fluval sponges and cut them to size.

Okay :)! Thanks. The filters aren't too old really. But I need some extra filtration in one my tanks, hopefully these will help out a little bit!
Thanks for the information though! I'm going to give them a try.

Pot scrubbies are for bio filtration to house BB that converts ammonia to nitrates, for mechanical filtration just goto ur lfs and buy a sheet of filter pading, they sell them in bulk and you can easily cut to spec w/ scissors and have 10-20 filter replacments for 6-7$!!!

Also if you want additional filtration id reccomend sponge filters! Their cheap and very effective, all u need is a bubbler and sponge, 5-20$ at ur lfs.

Anyways good luck!
