I recently picked up a 75 gallon from a friend who was giving it away.
It was very heavy and made with 3/8" glass.
There did not seem to be any center bracing on the top or bottom trim.
Were older tanks built without this center bracing?
Only indication of the brand of tank is a Hagen sticker on one of the panels.

I too had a tank like that in the late 90's.
A 90gal (same footprint as a 75g, just taller). It weighed probably 3 times as much as the weight of a recent 90g model. Never had an issue. I gave it away when I moved, and I believe it is still in use.
The only difficulty with them (easily solved) is not having the middle support for regular glass covers.

On the newer tanks built in the 2000s, the glass is noticeably thinner, and evident with bowing of the sides. Hence the need for a center brace.

Thanks for all the info. Was debating if the center brace on mine was broken or just not present to begin with. Was considering siliconing in a glass center brace about 3" wide just in case.

Seems like I might not have to do that anymore

If it doesn't bow when filled, then you are good without one.

The only problem without a center brace on this tank is the difficulty if you want to use a glass canopy.

Is the 1/4" bow including both panels or just one panel?
