I've got an older model Odell 55 gallon that was given to me by a friend. I've had it for quite some time, and was fianlly about to set this thing up. I started reading up on it though, and now I can't decide. I can't really find a solid answer to whether or not it has tempered glass. Basically, I just want to make sure this thing is plenty sturdy before I set it up in my living room. Anyone have any input/experience with these tanks? Thanks!

I filled it with water and made sure there were no leaks. I left it overnight on my garage floor, and there were no leaks 24 hours later. I didn't test it with all of the substrate and other misc items though.....

I would let it sit for a couple of day. Substrate doesn't make much difference as far as test filling.

I do not believe they are tempered but they are very solid tanks for sure. Only issues are they have slightly different sizes for lids and stuff so if you ever break the lid its gonna be very hard to find a replacement with the right size.Other than that, I have I believe 6 or 7 of them drilled so I would have to guess-that the answer is no they are not tempered. Most tanks aren't until they reach larger sizes from what I know. hope that helps.

when i started keeping fish in 1996, my first tank was given to me by someone who was throwing it out. it's mfg date was in 1971 and it was kind of scary to put water in a 25 year old tank but it held fine for a few years until i finally retired it

I'm just curious,so tempered glass tanks can't be drilled?
