Olly - The Jag

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a Jag for 13yrs when I was a kid. He was mean as HELL. walk in the room and he would try to bite you through the glass. Break heater. just a terror

nice lookin jag

Thanks for sharing, I never get sick of looking at jags:)

Great violet colour happening on your Jag. He's shaping up to be a great looking fish. I found that after about 5-6" my Jag really put the beef on with large weekly water changes and good nutrition. Have fun with your Jag!

Yea, he's on shrimp (thawed raw, and freeze dried), flakes, hikari gold, and blood worms. Doing like 50-60% water changes weekly. He gets meaner by the day. I'm starting to feel bad for the Silver Dollars in there with him. They're too quick to catch but they hit the glass HARD often enough when they try and get away from him.

I too felt bad for some 4" barbs and a large siamese algae eater (6") (brought in to try an control some hair algae) I put in with my 13" Jag over the last few months. The tinfoil barbs were terrorized and would have become meals so were removed and the siamese algae eater was so terrorized that he wiggled or jumped out of the tank:eek: (through a very, very small hole) one day to escape the Jag's persistent hunt. Funny thing is I have a 3" male convict (removed from a 40gal-beating up on a 3" GT!) in the tank that is pretty much ignored by the Jag. The behaviour and dynamics of trying different tankmates is interesting but kinda costly if they end up as expensive feeders! Thinking about trying some sort of heavy duty pleco next. 2 Raphael cats in the tank just do not do an adequate job of keeping driftwood/glass etc clean but they sure did a number on the snail population! :)

Thanks for posting your experiences with your Jag. Mine is getting meaner too. I think a lot of it has to do with tank size/bottom area. These fish like a substantial sized territory that's for sure.
