ok so i have a 55 gallon fish tank. i have two angle fish (medium) and one pleco (medium) i have fake plants because i haven't bought real yet. i have fake logs and limestone gravel. my tank is cloudy. i have had the tank set up for a month before i put a single fish in it. and i cant figure out why its cloudy. my pleco is very reserved and happy, my angle fish are active and are feed once a day and eat it all. i have done partial water changes and everything i could think of including taking a water sample to a pet store specializing in fish. i even had the woman come to my house and look at it and she has no idea why either, im going nuts there is no bacteria or algae in this tank and it has had the chance to cycle... i need help.....

limestone gravel aint good, toss it and go with something better and get a ac110 with carbon pouches itll clear it out better

and how much gravel do you have? from my experience, gravel keeps the tank more clear.

How long do you leave the lights on for? Or does the tank get a lot of sunlight?

i say bloom / cycle since you said you waited a month, and then put a fish in and tested the water. I would guess that you are just starting your cycle the day you added the fish. There is some ammonia in a lot of areas, so the water would have some food. Unless you where feeding the bacteria during that month with no fish in it.

Keep with it, dont give up. There's a lot of trial and error in fish keeping, especially in the beginning. Trust me, it's worth it.

Many reasons why water is cloudy.... esp a new tank

did you pre-wash the limestone gravel though, when you are doing water changes, do you notice it being more worse when water is going thru the gravel?

When a tank is newly established- need to figure out if its the bacterial bloom or the decors/heaters/whatever is in the tank that's causing the water to look like that. Really too many factors right now in play. I do get bloom once in a while when I totally redo my tanks, though when I re-introduce bacteria from other tanks it's back to norm and I do polish my waters too with good filter systems.

Do elimination method. Do a barebottom tank for a while and slowly add decors over time.... and see if that cures the problem if that's really what is bothering you.
