They have pool cartridge filters? That would be awesome for those large setups, without having to back wash like sand filters

You mean like the micron cartridges? Yeah. You can actually run water directly into them but they'll start overflowing pretty quick. If you run them in a filter that actually pushes the water through they work well.

They operate like Ocean Clear filters. I use them in these setups.

I always new about like stringing together whole house filters, but I thought they would clog to fast. I just assumed a swimming pull outside, subject to dust and dirt ect would have a lot of waste; so I assume they might go longer before clogging. Heck they even make DE filters for pools, why in the world do you need DE filtering, isn't everything below 35 microns invisible to the human eye.

Some people like really clear pools lol.

Pool filters in a swimming pool application filter dirt, body oil, sun tan lotion etc.
Aquariums are comparatively speaking much dirtier due to the detritus created.
When I first started using whole house filters I used regular water filter cartridges.
I switched to "pool" filter cartridges because they can be cleaned and reused repeatedly. Although I still use small micron cartridges to polish the water.
A pool filter cartridge and a potable water filter cartridge of equal surface area and micron size will perform the same for the same length of time.

D.E. or sand poolfilters are not a good choice for most home aquarists due to the high backpressure created and the need for much larger pumps.
