After making a few posts about their less-than-healthy feeder guppy supply (which I didn't think was too abnormal), I've realized how EVIL they are. Pure Hellspawn!

Ok, so I thought the guppies must have just been bad stock from the supplier, but now I think most of the disease develops during their time in the store. I see perfectly healthy, non-dying feeder guppies in their own tanks, and yet the ones they give me are suffering from the plague. (there was not one that wasn't covered with fin rot and other poop) They must keep two separate tanks, one for their own use with actual filtration, and another dumpster for us customers...

But this is what makes them evil! What lengths they go to to hide it. Everyone knows that little kids love to pick out pretty feeder goldfish as pets, so they keep the goldfish out where everyone can see, and conveniently there's no disease in the goldfish tank. However, I once heard a little kid with a parent who wanted to see the guppy tank to pick one out, and they absolutely refused, saying that was employee area only. They did, however, let a group of kids on one of those fun tours into the other "employee only" areas.

I'm seriously thinking of getting a job there to see how horrific that guppy tank is.

so, if I've understood you correctly, you go into a shop, see some good looking fish, walk over to the clerck and asks for 5 of them guppies. He then goes into a hidden tank, scops up 5 of them fishes and hands them to you in a bag you cant see into?

So that you dont know what you bought untill you got home?

I would never ever buy fish from a store that did that. I want to point to spesific fish and he better get the right one or else Im not buying.

Strange store practice that there ... Never thought about it and would never accept it either...

Oh, actually, that would be pure evil. These were feeder guppies. The ones that I got, the ones they sell to customers, are covered with all sorts of bacterial diseases, but the ones that they use to feed their fish (not for sale, I just saw the ones that hadn't been eaten yet) were much better.

I have a very simple solution all you have to do is not shop there and go somewhere else. I would never purchase fish without looking at them for a least 15 minutes...

That is a very simple solution, just make sure to let them know.

When it comes to feeders it's almost always "net's choice" in any lfs I'm in. The fact that they hide the feeder tanks sends up a red flag though, I'd shop elsewhere. I'd also ask the boss why they hide the feeder guppies and let your inner BS-detector decide for you.

Woah, I had no idea other stores actually kept their feeder guppies out. Most stores only carry goldfish and minnows as feeders, and I just got into the hobby awhile ago, I didn't even know some stores keep their feeders out with the other fish. Maybe I can pick out some healthy ones now :D

The thing is, they're one of the only stores that stock feeder guppies around here... I did find one place (out of the 10 I called), so I'll have to check them out. At the time they were out though.

But after realizing the evil store's whole system of anti-ethics, I will curse them every time I pass them. And the only time I'll go in is to bug their snobby staff with pesky questions. MUHAHAHAHA

yeah i am glad my lfs is good as it is the only one in the town i live in, there is one more about 1/2 hour away but they only have little tetras and other small fish, so if my lfs wasn't as awsome as it is i would have to catch a 45 minute ferry, and drive for 1/2 houror more

What are you using feeder guppies for?
