I was just doing some vacuuming of the house today, when I got by one of my 55s I noticed a cloud of fry swimming around in there. I was suprised. In that aquarium there is 1 xanthic sagittae, 2 red tiger motaguense, and 1 neet, all the fish are between 3-4 inches TL. I didn't know I had a pair of RTMS, I thought they were both females. The larger one is the one that's colored up, so I thought the smaller one that was less colorful was a subdominant female, but that's the male! Caught me totally off guard.
The male is not hangng out with the female, never has really hung out with her, she kind of beats on him. The female is staying on the left side of the aquarium guarding the fry. She seems content to stay there instead of killing the other fish in there. Now I have fry from convicts, spectabiles, cutteri, and rtms. I need some more growout tanks, lol.
I didn't think rtms would breed that small.
