So I went to go feed my tanks this morning, skipped feeding them last night, and in one tank that I'm growing out a few flag tails, black aros, pbass, and bichirs I noticed one of the flag tails had a missing eye. So I though dam tha sucks. So I go about feeding the fish and notice his other eye is missing and think that now this really sucks. I'm sure he could have gotten by with only one eye but I don't know with both eyes missing.

So what should I do?

Should I put him to sleep?
Move to another tank and and see if he survives? Can he even find food with out being able to see?

Comments and suggestions welcomed.

I wouldn't put him to sleep. I would move him to another tank to were he won't be bothered. More then likely he will be fine and after awhile without having sight anymore his sense of smell will increase do to the fact that his sight is gone.

just try to aim the food in his direction.. he may end up being able to adjust fine...

Fish have what is called lateral line(6th sense). They can feel vibration,so if you were feeding him live food he will still eat. Plus once one sense is gone all other senses increase, its called survival. Humans and animals have the abilty to do this, the creator is great!!!!

Not all fish have a lateral line. For example, bottom dwellers and Livebearers don't. I'm not sure about Prochilodus. Hold on, I'll check fishbase.

Edit: Doesn't say :/

Aww. I would take him in a heartbeat if you lived near me. He could go with our Flag :D I have so many rescues with one eye. Used to have one that had no eyes as well. He found food fine, but needed to be in a tank where he wouldn't be out competed, or beat up.

Thanks everyone for the replies. When I get home I'll move him. I have a 30g tall that has some algae build up and only a small 3-4in bichir, the flagtail is about 3.5-4in in size.
