Ompok pabo (indian wels cat)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
update: accidentally fed this guy a whole mostly frozen silverside….. smh hopefully it’s a forgiven mistake

Hes qt in a small tank, but am planning to add him to a new 40 Gallon. I’ve seen many biotopes if u will with cyprinids and pearl gouramis. Though these are quite aggressive fish apparently but I will attempt this. He’s super personal and must have great vision as he follows my hand very well. Big mouth, but no visible teeth from what I can see. Absolutely love this fish… must have for other Silurid lovers like me.

He’s doing very very very well. They seem to be a very nocturnal catfish, even for catfish. He doesn’t leave the driftwood structure I made him unless food is on the table. He’s definitely getting chunkier. Extremely cool fish. Like a pocket sized wels.🤣
Same with mine. A good mini wels substitute. Mine has a yellow color due to the white sand unlike yours.

He’s definitely grown. He’s getting serious size. He’s very absent minded of his size now as he tried to his in plants that he can’t hide easily between. Not that the plants will endanger him just it’s funny. He is feeding well. I’m gonna eventually add some danios and opaline gouramis to the setup.

Unless I am misunderstanding, the ompok will eat any fish that fits in its mouth, but I am sure you know it, so you must be adding live feeders that way I'd guess.

No you are correct. But danios are too fast and the opaline stays at the surface… well at least that’s what’s going on in my head. I’m gonna add them and monitor for 24-48 hours and come back to it. Wes said in his experience they are predatory but not aggressive. I don’t want to test this wrong or right on the lives of fish though.
