Westport, CT
driving from St Louis MO to Westport CT. Any places I should stop for fish? Couple of ways I could go - on the south Louisville KY, Philly etc and to the north I could go Chicago, Grand Rapids, Syracuse and along the lakes. I'd go anyplace between those routes.

I live in Louisville KY. I go to pets palace on bardstown road and sandys on poplar level road. Palace Has a huge selection of small and big fish but really not the best well kept. Sandy's has more of ur average stuff just not monsters and they also have a good saltwater section. U could also go over the bridge to Indiana clarksville and go to Greentree they usually have quite a bit of unique stuff and a lot of it.

If you go south through philly, go up north through NJ to CT and you can stop at Absolutely Fish in Clifton, about 25 minutes out of NYC on route 46. Great store with huge selection of fresh and saltwater fish, best store I have been to on the east coast. Fish Hut NJ is also about 10 minutes away, not nearly as nice but they have good african cichlid selection. There are also some really interesting Chinatown-esque stores in manhattan.

Been year since I've been to these:

Columbus Ohio: Aquarium adventure. Big store. Lots of selection. High-end price.
Columbia Missouri: Columbia Pet Center. Small store, lots of oddball fish collection. Moderate price.
Athens Ohio: Fish n' stuff. Small store, always something cool in stock. Off the beaten path, but priced right.

Was at these recently:
Pittsburgh PA: Oddball pets and aquariums; Elmer's. Oddball is a must stop for little fish and plants and is an awesome old-school shop... and it's not easy to get to or find! Elmer's is a big store, big selection, big price.
North NJ: Fish hut is great for Africans in terms of both selection and price. Absolutely Fish is overpriced. Aquaridise has a nice selection and is moderately priced.
South NJ: Aquarium Center is a fancy store with a decent selection at a premium price. The highlight of aquarium center is their floor IMO.
Jersey Shore: Tropiquarium sells new tanks at cost if you are in the market.
New Haven CT: Worldwide fish and pets. Very interesting shop/atmosphere.

Pearl River NY (just north of NYC): Beital's. I've heard this is a great place for cichlids, but haven't been able to stop in yet.

If you can swing through Dayton, OH, you should go to Gerbers Tropical Fish. They have a huge selection of monster fish. They have rays, cats, peacock bass, eels, etc. They also have a large selection of saltwater fish, inverts and corals. I try to swing by there at least once a month just to look around. I definitely recommend trying to make your trip go through Dayton to try to visit them.

Nj has some geat fish stores. Go through nj.

To add to the ones above. Aquascape online in belville nj is worth a stop.

There is one in brunswich nj i have been meaning to hit, but have not. I forget the name right now.

After the nj stores go to long island. Hit monster aquarium and then another store here:

1 Northern Blvd
Great Neck, NY 11021
United States

Have fun

Don't come through Philly as there are no shops here worth travelling to from afar to check out.New Jersey has them all.
