? on caudil fin damaged

Sometimes fins split for what would appear to be no reason at all. Did this just show up out of no where? I've had it happen and it usually heals in a few days to a week. Keep the water clean, and keep an eye on it for a few days. A small amount of aquarium salt might speed up the healing process but most of the time it isn't necessary.

Water changes and a little bit of salt, not full med dose, is all I ever do and it seems to speed up healing...sometimes in a couple days.

If any of the hard rays are broken it will not heal all the way. That looks particularly deep too - like it goes into the base of the tail. I would be a little worried about that healing due to the severity. Like others have said - salt & up the frequency and percentage of water changes until it heals. Keep us updated.

Yes it is deep into his body, and yes this happened overnight.I will try the salt and i do 50 % water changes weekly.

You might want to add in at least one more 50% WC for a week or two. Clean water helps it heal quickly & quick healing will make any damage less noticeable.

I had a tank with a huge, aggressive male convict and my jack Dempsey kicked his butt. His cautal fib was ripped all the way down to the base of the take as yours appears to be. I didnt really do anything to the water or add anythibg to help accelerate the healing and it was fine. Maybe I just got lucky.
