sometimes he seems to get a hair upp his a** and starts making crazy movements at mainly bottom of the tank on rocks and driftwood swimming sideways and such as if he is trying to scratch an itch or something. This is only lasts 30 seconds at a time and not very often. Any body have any ideas?

if he his scratching against the deco and is doing it alot then it is probably the start of ich, salt the water and raise your temp to like 86

If he is scratching its probably ich. Mine was doing some goofy stuff a while back. I figured out he was trying to figure out how to dig underneath the large rocks in the tank. Mine would get frustrated and take it out on the tube to the hang on filter. I ended up removing all the slate and large rocks. Yours may be doing the same with the driftwood.

All of my fish scratch on wood, driftwood, gravel, plants, and anything else thats in the tank. I have no ich. I would be careful with just treating disease because you THINK they may have it. If he is "vibrating" over things he is just claiming territory. Observe and if anything does pop up treat it, but I would say its just him being a fish.

if there is a disease I would think gill flukes, but I wouldn't just assume ich if its done that for a while with no actual visible ich spots just because of the scratching

I believe it's called "Flashing" - basically a fish scratching scale irratants. Microbiology is always present in cycled tanks - flashing is normal. However as listed above "Flashing" can also be symptomatic of external parasites, if you visually see an abnormality forming - post it - then get the correct cure for the ID'ed problem. Best of luck!
