Greetings all

I am certain that there are a number of people on this site with several thousand photos in their collection. One of the biggest issues I have found, that at times leads to a lack of taking photos, is the storage, display and sharing of the photos. I would be interested to learn what methods, services and applications have proved useful to you.

Thanks in advance

All my photos are stored on an external hard drive. In fact, the 80 gig I currently have is almost full. I'll be adding another, probably 150 gig, very soon.

Most of the photos I share are hosted on the Photobucket site. I pay the extra $20 or so, a year for unlimited amount of images and size.

I also use the same filing system for all my images that are stored on the external hard drive. Well over a hundred different folders identify subject.

Examples:

Auloncara Maylandi- 1aAMaylandi050706. The folder name is "Auloncara Maylandi". The file name tells me the first image is "1a". The subject is "AMaylandi". And the date it was taken "050706".

"1b" would be the second photo processed of that species on the the same date.

1340 Millwood RD- 3aMlwdKitchn060107. The folder name is "1340 Millwood RD". The file name tells me that it is the third room photographed and is the first photo of that room "3a". The description/id of the room is "Kitchn". And the date I made the photo "060107".

"3c" would be the third photo processed for the kitchen of that address and date.

"1aMlwdFront060107" Would be the first processed photo of the outside front view of the address.

When you have the thousands of photos that we save, you need a good filing system that helps you identify the photo...quickly!:-D

Thanks. Yes, the external hard-drive makes the most sense from so many perspectives. With respect to file sharing via on-line services, I have used the Yahoo photos for a long while, except that it has limitations regarding how people can access the info. PBbase was another i looked at and found that had some upload issues. I will look into Photobucket.

I do like the detailed descriptions you are giving each photo. My experience has been that i name the photo and then cannot remember which one it is. Too simple.
