I've got a group of 6 that are about 6" two males and four females. My question is when the males mature do their dorsal fin become "threaded"? here are some pics i took of my males

Also they do seem to be acting alittle weird besides the males fighting. A female would go close to a piece of slate and hover there till one male goes by her and they both vibrate. Then it would stop and the other male would go by and do the same, as both males swim away she would just stay there for awhile. if any other fish besides the SD's would go by her she'd chase um off. Any ideas?

I don't know about the threaded fin as my males didn't seem to get that. Also that behavior could possibly be an attempt at breeding but mine do this all the time and I never see any eggs. It could be the eggs get eaten by the roseline sharks I have in the tank with them. I have 2 males and 2 females in my 80 gallon with a school of roselines. These are really cool dollars.

Whoa never checked up on this thread. But yeah my two males are all scarred up, smaller guy more than the bigger guy. Still acting like how described earlier and yeah I got roselines in the same tank too. Seems like the commotion stirs up my archers too. But then again though the tank is 8' they still chase each other all over the tank...

I have like 5-6 males and the largest is a male and I haven't noticed any red spots yet nor any chasing/aggression. Maybe it's forming red spots which is a normal occurrence with age?
