? on using aquarium salt

Since no one has asked, I'll ask the obvious question.
Why do you want to add salt?
And what kind of cichlids?
The reason I ask, is because I never add salt unless I'm treating for something, or the cichlids I have are brackish types, such as Etroplus suratensus, or Alcolapia sp.

Exactly what I was thinking. We need the complete story from the OP.:)

Iam sorry I should have explained. I have 5 guianacara owroewefi fry that 4 of them are having issues with their dorsal fins. I only see one of them that have one.Is this normal at this size? The mother's looks like hers are starting to get a little frayed also.I do a 50 % water change once week with plenty of filtration, and parameters are fine.

Salt may or may not help if this is an infectious or fungal issue, and it should be tolerated by Guianacara, even though they seem to be a strictly fresh water species.
But are you saying most of the fish don't have dorsal fins?

Yes 4 of them have bits and pieces of one and one seems to have quite a bit of one. Other than that they seem very healthy and are growing fast.

I think I should have been more specific.
Are you saying they were born with dorsal fins, and they have rotted away? Or are you saying they were born without dorsal fins?
If they were born without, I doubt any treatment will help.
If it's a fungus eating the fins away, yes salt.
I must admit, I don't use aquarium salt, I find it unnecessarily expensive, I just buy a 20 lb bag of rock, or water softener salt from the hardware store and use that.
NaCl is NaCl, unless it has an additive.
