Great color too

There's a difference between a nice thick, beefy fish and a fish that seemed like if it were human, would do that loud out-of-the-mouth breathing. :lipsseale
Ever heard of fatty liver disease? It's common in koi but other fish (including cichlids) can suffer from it and is usually fatal. It's just nicer and safer to keep a fish fit.
Anyhoo, it's certainly possible "he's" a she and possibly egg-heavy which would contribute to the rotund appearance concentrated at the belly.![]()

I have heard of it seeing as how I raise them also-
But I dont think my fish will benifit from fasting.Although I may be wrong here-But when he is pictured straight on-One can certainly tell that he is not fat or over weight.Yes he has a chunky body shape-But honestly after seeing and watching him grow from a wee guy...I just believe this is the way he is gonna be shaped from here on out-
And most certainly correct me if I am wrong here please-I dont mind learning new things.....

I fast my guys for 4-5 days until their systems are cleaned out do HUGE waterchanges on all the tanks and begin feeding. I don't think your RD is fat though. I have watched him grow since you got him and he has always had his distinct shape. I mean he may be a little fat but not much IMO to be concerned. Still you should always fast your fish once and while.
