I've always heard its best to fast or not feed your cichlids one day of the week, they seem more fired up for their food on tues, any one do the the same ?

I feed mine daily in small amounts, but some times the go a day a week w/ out food. It is just important not to over feed...

Sometimes with my adults I'd skip 4-5 days. Once I went three weeks when on vacation, couldn't even tell they hadn't been fed when I got back.

When i had my GT, he would be so aggressive and active at the end of the day that i didn't feed them. It is a good thing. It helps clear out their digestive system, they will eat uneaten food, the filter can catch up. I would highly recommend doing it with any fish except juvenile fish

My fish are still young and I just love to feed them. Every day I think I will no feed them today. But then I see how cute and excited they are to see me and I have to give them a snack. So no I don't make a habbit out of it.

i skip every other day and sometimes two when i feed them a bunch. i also change up the food they eat every time. one day blood worms. next pellets. next brine shrimp. and next some krill. if i throw a little to much in there ill let them go one or maybe two days without food. i make sure to switch up the food too incase of bloat. and also like the old saying goes to much of one thing is never good.

I agree skipping a day helps the tank stay cleaner, but i know if i skip more then that my fish get all stirred up and start fighting. I went three days with out feeding and every one had bite marks and nipped fins. My poor tinfoil barbs were hiding in the cracks in the rocks (and that cant be easy at 7")
