this is for my friend doesnt have a mfk account so happens i do. One of his discus just died. Before it died it was healthy eating and foraging but then just stopped eating and hung out in one spot colors didnt look bad and fins were erect. When he passed another one of his discus became infected with same symptoms and just sits at one spot now but his 5 other discus are healthy and eating well. Does anyone know what could be wrong and what type of bug, parasite or w/e could be changing host. Any recommeded treatments such as metro, pp bath, fendi, prazi, or lavi.

thanks

This seems strange, I'm keeping Discus twenty years and they don't normally go from healthy and eating well to suddenly dying. Sometimes they get banged up and can hemorhage during the night. Otherwise you may want to isolate this one fish and treat with Clout as a general tonic. Of course always check for ammonia and PH levels.

Mine did, I have to disagree. Healthy one minute, hand feeding, next day one ill then dead then another got sick. This kept happening time after time with restocking and perfect water params. One of my favorite and least favorite fish for this reason.

It indicates that he is stunted . it is the condition when they get stressed by a/many things . this can be vary from tank size , terrotories , tank mates , water condition , bulliness of others etc . find exact reason and try to solve it .

I actually have the exact same thing going on now with one of mine. I have a tank with two rays and decided to add a couple discus about a month ago. It's a 50 gallon with only those fish in it. I recently did a water change and normal algae clean up the other day and since then one of the discus (which a few days ago was very happy and eating well). Now is floating near the top in one area and looks very sluggish. The other is doing fine from what I can tell. All levels are good but not sure about ph. I've gotten a few different answers on it and it's just slightly over 7 atm. thoughts?

^^ What % w/c did you do? Maybe the sluggish discus is in shock from the ph change from your w/c...........

Discus are Tricky. when things are good your on top of the world but when there bad feels like rock bottom

Update on the discus, it's gone to sleep with the fishes. Turns out it had a parasite of some sort. The vet I've been talking to thinks velvet fin. I isolated it shortly after my last post and started heat therapy and some antibiotic treatments but a few days later he gave up the fight. Sorry to say but it looks like my other discus has it now also. I'm hoping I caught it early enough with him.
