Oi. Trying to locate suitable, black, silicone to build a new tank. I've always wondered about Sikaflex, and recently someone on another Forum suggested Bostik Glazing Silicone. Went to Bunnings for a Bo' Peep at the Bostik, today, but there's a mention in the blurb about not being usable "below the waterline", which I can only assume includes aquariums...

So. Suggestions? Must be black, not (at this stage) interested in clear/translucent.

Black silicon is hella tidy on a tank. Ask the guy at Dinki-Di across from the airport, he builds tanks. Otherwise send Amehel0 a PM, he works for a tankbuilder here in Bris and probably knows a suitable black silicon.

Thought about going to Dinki's (how'd you know about that place? Clearly an ex-local?? :) ), but I'm sure he uses translucent on his tanks. Still, can't hurt to ask. I'll call him tomorrow...

G'day Guys, I got some black silicone at my local Bunnings but it was a "ketamine" cure, instead of an "acetic" cure like normal aquarium silicone. I read somewhere that to be safe for aquariums/fish the silicone needs to acetic cure type. The stuff I had was supposed to OK for potable water but not suitable for glass joining with prolnged exposure to pressure according to the lable, so I ended up returning it unused. I only wanted it to fit a tank background. A tank with black silicone would look cool. I would be keen to hear of the correct product details. Hope this helps your search.

Cheers,
Ken.

Well, finally got onto what I think is the right stuff. I was looking at this yesterday, at Bunnings, but wasn't sure about it's suitability....and since I trust nothing that I am told by Bunnings employees, I din't bother to ask.

Ken, "Ketamine", you say? Isn't Ketamine a horse tranquiliser/Ben Cousins' favourite nose dust??

I was aware of that. However, I find there can be something of a translation issue between products available in the States, or elsewhere, and those available here. Hence the title of the Thread.

Maybe we could have a special sticky area for Aussie questions??

BTW: If I was looking to buy a hemichromis elongatus, in 2005, that link would have proved invaluable...

OK, but we're leery of guys calling other guys "mates". :D

Yeah, I grew up in CNS. Go back up a few times a year to visit the olds and do some fishing.

OK, maybe my spelling of "ketamine" was wrong, I returned the tube so I cant check! It was something like that though! That link to the Bostik data certainley sounds like the correct stuff, good pick up ghengis, thanks.. I agree with idea of a section for Aussies too.

Cheers,
Ken.
