Do you think one fx5 would be ok on my 112 gallon tank? It is shaped like an L so I was thinking on the other end putting on a powerhead to move the water and waste around.

Put the intake strainer at the junction where it bends. Output at one of the corner and a powerhead at the other side. That way, water everywhere is constantly being pushed to the intake strainer

Agreed. Then you could eventually put another FX5 or a different canister later on. I have always been a double everything type of person. If you have 2 canister filters and 1 goes out while your not there then you still have at least 1 filtering. Same with heaters go with 2 one goes out theres still your backup.

You could put the output at the corner and point each output down one part of the tank since it has a dual output. A powerhead and/or strong air pump to increase flow is a good idea no matter what.

^ this. and it would look nice and clean too ;)

I like the idea the OP had... Intake on one end, output on the other, powerhead in the bend blowing towards the intake.

Or... Split the output and run them towards the center.
