I've had the following arrangement for about 18 months now. Luckily I have had no fish deaths, the water parameters are consistently good and the tankmates get on well together!

However I feel like mixing things up a little bit. What fish would you suggest I get to help refresh the tank. I would like to get a knife or a betta or something eyecatching. Would this work? Which of my current fish should I lose to make way? (PS. I'm looking for a tweak not a radical overhaul)

5 x torpedo barbs
6 x tiger barbs
1 x bn plec
1 x ruby shark
2 x rainbowfish
2 x gourami
3 x albino corys

50 gal (uk) 48x18x15 with good external filtration

All suggestions welcome, many thanks!

depending how aggresive the tank is. you might be able to drop the gouramis and add an Angel fish.

Most species of knife fish will very quickly get too big for that tank, and end up saving you the trouble of having to sell any of those smaller fish. I'm not really familiar with a lot of smaller fish, but I can tell you that my Clown Knife grew about 6 inches in 5 months and is at least 13-14". So, I can tell you what won't work, while maybe someone else who is more familiar with your group of fish can give you a good suggestion.

...and the other fish I'm interested in is a severum. Can these be kept singularly? Would they mix well with my stock?
