So is there a big difference in aggression of the two fish? I know it depends on the fish but Im curious what others experiences are with these fish. I have a jag thats fairly peaceful but have never had a festae

IME, jags are more territorial than outright aggressive. Ive never owned one that was a psycho likesome you read about on here, but Ive never kept one bigger than 8 inches.

Ive had festae that lived with everything including jags, grammodes, dovii, fredii, trimacs, carpintis and more peacefully. I never had an issue with them until they spawned.

i had a male festae that was downright mean. like the other guy said i think the jag are more terratorial to where my male festae wanted to kill. my female festae would kill if she was removed from her current tankmates that she grew up with and put in another tank. but the combo of the 2 fish does seem to work alot. my female festae is paired up with my male jag.

I have had both together in the same tank. As said above, the Jags are more territorial vs. the festae being more aggressive. Having said that, festae have to hit 4-5" before hitting their mean streak and jags start off territorial.

I don't expect you'll have a big problem unless you get a specifically mean specimen...but you just have to give the fish enough space.

Luckily Jags eat more and grow faster than festae IME and if you get fish that are the same size, just put a little extra food and the Jag will soon out grow the festae. I think the problem may arise if you get a larger and meaner festae...

Good luck!

Ive had both. Both are nasty especially when spawning!! I think it matters from fish to fish with all cichlids. I have seen timid "nasty species" and nasty "timid species"
