Hey guys, I've got a 125 gallon tank current housing the following:

synodontis catfish
jack dempsey
geophagus red hump
jewel cichlid
blood parrot
tiger oscar

All the fish except the BP are juvies so it's hard to say if one more fish would be too many. I was thinking about getting a gold severum and then calling the tank filled, but I'm not sure if I'm pushing it as is. The tank is filtered by a self-made 30gallon wet/dry. What do you guys think? The fish that are in there are all getting along just fine but I'm concerned about when they get huge. Thanks for any input.

get rid of the jack dempsey, add a couple more jewel cichlids and get the severum. i think you'd be good. im just saying get rid of the dempsey because IMO theyre pretty usual.

Nah, the JD is getting along with all the other fish. At first he was a monster and killed all my danios, but apparently once he got that out of his system, he chilled out. It may also be because he's not the biggest fish since I added the BP.

So, given that the fish get along, would you say that the bioload would be OK with a severum in addition to the existing fish?

You could get a severum, but you need a lot more filtration. You only have the 30gallon wet/dry filter on your tank? You should at least get an AC 110 or canister filter because it sounds like you don't have enough right now.

That may be true once they're all adults, but while they're small, my current filtration appears to be more than enough. But you're right, once they're big, I may need to step it up a bit. Thanks for the advice.

I just added my ebjd from my smaller tank into my 240gal. It took only an hour for him to decide to annex a chunk of the firemouth's territory. I've never seen a fish lay claim so quickly!
