One more question

I went to my LFS this evening to order my ray. He told me that he will not garuntee the ray and that they are wild caught and i would have to do the de bugging? Now this fish is comming as a pup so I would imagine it is not wild caught but yet a breed ray but what was he talking about de bugging them? Ive been reading eveyrthing I could the past week and I have seen nothing about this.

Also I was thinking that since he does guaruntee them that I would instead of picking of the ray up the day it comes in I would leave it with him fora few days first. What do you think about that strat? or do you think the ray would be better off in my hands?

he said he dosent guarantee so if it dies in his care i doubt he will cover it as you had to preorder it in the first place. debugging means parasites and fish lice and all that other good stuff. there are plenty of breeders and sellers on this site to buy captive rays from and have the rays that have been in captivity for a while. if you havent ordered yet check out some of the sellers on here. i know vamptrev just had a litter for starts.
now if you already ordered the ray be ready to get it in the bag cause that guy dosent want anything to do with it. so you will have to look for fish lice, as well as you can and hopefully you have a big q tank to treat and watch. but also this means you will have to acclimate the ray yourself. im big on squirt and drop from rays that get shipped to me but others slow drip acclimate them. you will have people on both sides on this one though so do some research on both and figure out what one you feel more comfortable with. also have jungle pond anchors away for the fish lice and prazi pro in case of other parasites on hand and ready to go. rays are sensitive to most meds. so good luck with him and keep us updated

I did not have to pay for the ray upfront and he usually carries a few rays he just will not garuntee any of them. Thats why I though about letting him keep it for a few days.

I will get the meds to be safe and at the very least I'll have em hand. I'll also be reading up on drip/squirt acclimation. If you have any links they would be appreciated.

I'd cancel the order and find another source. You want a healthy ray to start you out with as a ray newbie, otherwise you and the ray might be in for a rough ride. Where in PA are you and what type of ray are you getting?

Near Gettysburg, wanting to get a hystrix based on advice from here. I do have the option of looking at the ray and stuff before buying they did not make me pay for him upfront

Be surprised if your LFS will get you a Hystrix unless they get stock from Jeff Rapps. Jeff isn't that far from you and he has Hystrix still.

x2 not many lfs will have true hystrix. the best place to find one would be on here. rapps is a good seller and also mnstingray i think will be trying to bring some in soon if i read right.
