A 2" convict is 1 of 2 (pictured) has the white stringy poo. Was quarantined for 2.5 wks (with his convict buddies) prior to being added to a 260gal with 4 wc Umbee's (4-6"s - added a week ago). No white stringy poo's from anyone until a water change today. All fish are super active and eating well. No other visible signs of illness.

PraziPro and NLS HexShield in the mail/en rte. Not certain I'll need it yet. Input welcomed.

Feeding:
Northfin Cichlid (Mostly)
Bio Gold+ (Occasionally)
Blood Worms (Rarely)

WC's:
25% on Wed or Thurs
50% on Sun
I know the water changes may be excessive for fish this size given tank size but I want the Umbee's to grow dangit...

Filtration:
2 x Eheim 2260's tons of Ehfi Mech, 20/10ppi foam, and Matrix.

My green terror has this symtom too. I'm starving him to get him on pellets(5th day). Is that the main reason? He looks eager to be fed though

I have hex shield on order too. I been doing the Epson salt treated food treatment for now till my food arrives (5 day treatment with 2 feedings per day, not heavy feedings though). It's working great!

No funny poops anymore. I still plan to do a 3 day treatment with the hex shield after the 5 days of Epson salt. I started treatment Monday night on my GT.

This is a tough this to deal with because you don't really know the cause. Many things can cause clearish/whitish stringy long poops from what I have read. But after raising my gt for almost a year and seeing how he is still very active and healthy looking I am treating him because I would rather be safe than sorry.

Good luck with your fish.

I've read it could be any one of a handful of things as well. Treating with prazipro prophylactically is probably something I could've done while I had the fish qt. They looked good for a 2/3 wks so didn't bother. The HEX shield too potentially although I think most would agree, as you said, it's generally best to identify the illness and target it specifically.

A few days into the prazi treatment and they're tolerating it well. They don't seem to like the hex shield much though. They'll eat a pellet or three then start spitting them out. Means they're only eating about 1/4-1/3rd what they usually do but since the treatment regimen is only 3 days I'm not worried about it. The bright orange poo it causes in contrast with the black sand makes my tank look like it's ready for Halloween! Lol

Hope your GT's get better!
