Girlfriend noticed she was being solitary and then we looked in her mouth and saw little fishies. We're going out in a few minutes to pickup a new 10gallon tank to put her in so she can have the babies.

Is this a good idea? Should I just let her spit it out in her tank? Recommended substrate for the 10gal? About 80 degrees? Is the new tank syndrome going to kill them?

Thanks,

Essy

use the same water from the mother tank...10gal is okay but a 20gal if possible.better. allowing the fact that there will be alot of fry and they need space to grow.. i would just put her in with out stripping the babies.. once she spits i would feed her well and put her back where she was .. or you can let her nurture the babies.. unless she looks like she will not be a good mother and you she may eat them etc..otherwise leave her leave her since she needs to regain her strength..before breeding again.. And also use sponge filter since you do not want to lose babies after she spits.

What type of substrate should I give them?

you do not need any..bare is easier to clean

So I just went out and got the 10 gal. Picked up a sponge filter, some gravel, used the water from the show tank, used a plant from the show tank.

Don't work today or tomorrow, can monitor it 24/7 basically. Putting the temp up to about 80, her mouth is BIG! How long should it take for her to spit the babies out?

Thanks for the compliments, five (well.. now six) tanks and this is my first breeding pair. I have some baby convicts that are going to breed soon.

So, how long do you think 'till she spits out? Three weeks is a long time to watch this tank :(.

i do not think you have long to wait...lol... but be patient... she and he are awesome and i cannot wait to see those babies..... let me know when she spits....
