When I went to bed last night I had five healthy and happy 2" tinfoil barbs swimming around, this morning I only have 4

I have no idea what has happened to it, there is no sign of it in the tank (dead or alive), so I can only guess that it was eaten by either my 8" tilapia or by my 5" pleco......it's a mystery

most likely its the 8" tilapia. If the fish can fit into your larger fishes mouth then mostlikely he ate it for a midnight snack lol. hate it when that happens.

I would be a tight fit, but I guess the tilapia could just fit a small barb in it's mouth, however, the tilapia's belly doesn't look like it has eaten a full barb.

sorry for your loss. also check around the tank to make sure it didn't jump out.

Thanks man. My tank is fully covered except for some wire mesh, there is no way it could of jumped out of the tank, but I'll check just incase.

If the tilapia didnt eat it and it didnt jump out, check your filter, might of got in there. Do you have a cat or dog by any chance? Its possible it jumped and they got it before you discovered it. I think these are really the only possibilities.

1. I checked my sump, but no fish in there. Both of my overflows have strainers on them, also.

2. No cats or dogs, so that option is out.

It's a real mystery :grinno:

2 days after discovering one barb missing, I have just woke up to find a dead barb on the bottom and looking a little beat up. When I went to bed there was 4 small ones and now I have 3 :(
There are all looking nice and healthy and eating well. I am guessing they are getting attacked by somefish during the night.

Its the tilpia most likey. I'd remove the tilpia!
-Happy thanksgiving!

I have some danios in with my cichlids and they try and attack them. I had 6 originally and was down to 4, then 3. I cleaned my filter a few days ago and found one of the danios in there so now back to 4. But the other 2 must of been killed or eaten. Dont know what fish killed/ate them though.
