I've had him for about 3 years. He was given to me by a friend that had him for about 3 years. And he was given to him by his old neighbor who had him for who knows how long.
Pretty sure he went blind about 3 months ago.
Dang.

Yeah it's been a bad twelve months for me. I've lost a lot of fish this year :-/.

Man that really sucks.
Losing a fish, especially one you have had around for a long time really sucks. In ally years of fish keeping it never gets easy and I never thought one could ever get attached to a fish...
I hope his loss will inspire you to maybe get a second version....the tank is never the same when you lose part of it.

...and I know completely how you feel. I have never lost as many fish as I have these past few months.
Keep focused on the ones you still have and maybe look for opportunity for growth in the hobby...
I have had to take a couple steps back and re-think a few things I have been doing with my tanks....like being more diligent with testing and vacuuming. ..things I have been slack on lately. I'm saying that is what you did, or I did either....but losing the fish I have these last few months has been positive in as much that it re-focused my attention to the fish keeping part of have fish...if that makes sense.

3 summers ago I rescued about 12 bettas that were part of the centerpieces at my wife's cousin's wedding (they were planning to flush them at the end of the wedding). I grabbed a bunch of plastic cups with lids from the bar and brought them all home. Yes, everyone (maybe even my own wife lol) thought I was just plain nuts! So, at home I picked up some cheap plastic Tupperware conatiners at the local dollar store and started looking for people to adopt them. Succeeded in finding them all homes with suitable living arrangements. One of the bettas, given to some close friends, succeeded in raising their adopted betta for 2 years to a very large and healthy specimen. At the second summer, they were going on vacation for a couple of weeks and asked me to look after their betta. They know all too well I'm the "fish guy", so they had the most utmost faith and trust in me. A week into the fish-sitting, the thing just up and died........under my watch! They were bummed about the loss but knew it wasn't from lacking of care on my part. The husband likes to humor that it died because the water was too clean under my care.

Sorry to hear about your fish EHH

Sorry to here about this, i know we got into it a bit on the other thread but this sucks

B bold that's how I feel. Earlier this year I lost most of my school of ruby barbs. I think what I was feeding them killed them so now I'm a lot more careful with what food I put into that tank.
I don't think I did anything wrong with this guy though. He was just old. I've been having to hand feed him lately because he wasn't conpeting for food any more.
xraycer xraycer that's rough. I've seen a lot of parties were bettas are used as center pieces. Poor fish.
