This was about a year ago that i did this. i had a power head that i was going to use but i saw that my dog had bit the wire about 6inches from the power head. i thought to myself hey if its not in the water i will be ok. well i had it in there for about 3 weeks untill one day i bumped it out of its tube and went half way in the tank without thinking or remembering the wire was damages. i stuck my hand in the water thats about the time i felt an odd feeling shoot up my arm. i was fine but talk about getting shocked i sat there for a min like WTF was that.

Powerheads seem to have a nasty bite.. I've been hit by hoods, broken heaters and several appliances but powerheads I hate.. They were in saltwater, maybe that's a factor.
Anyway, anytime I have a damaged wire now I remove the damaged parts and seal it as best I can before attempting to use it again. Especially stuff for tanks.

happened to me with a heater =[

That sudden muscle lock with the high frequency tingle is the fun version. :nilly:

It's the one you grab and drop kicks your arm back over your head that teaches the best lesson. ;) (usually the one that resets that "Days without accidents" sign on the jobsite, as well. )

I'm guilty of doing the electric jig when forgetting to shut the motor off before checking plug wires on a amped up ignition '67 Pontiac in a parking lot. Missus shot me a look from the passenger seat and asked me if I shocked myself on purpose or if she finally gets to know more about cars than I do. :grinno:

ouch that stinks...bet you'll never do that again... if it makes you feel any better I did something similar (except I didn't know the wire was exposed). Getting shocked is not a pleasant feeling.

just last nite i noticed my tenp dropping i went and turned up the heater still didnt come on i pulled it up a little and it was full of water thought man im lucky could have hurt bad

The salt played a major factor. Water itself does not conduct electricity, its the minerals that do. If you put 2 electrodes in distilled water youn can stick your hand in it without getting zapped.
