So today I was cleaning out my 10G fry tank and I took the drift wood out like I always do. After cleaning it I put the drift wood back in and tidied up. When I came back to the tank, around 5 minutes later I noticed one of the fry on the counter, he'd come with the wood.

I quickly put him back into the tank but he wasn't breathing so I thought he was a goner. He slowly started breathing but looked pretty bad, wasn't swimming well, etc...

The other fry started harassing him and I was about to take him out when I noticed something I found amazing. One of the fry (middle sized) started defending him. The fry would chase all other fry away from the wounded guy. I thought this was absolutely amazing that he was protecting the wounded fish.

In a way it makes me sad, how many people would protect a wounded person against 10-15 larger people. Anyways this is just one of the reasons why I love my fish.

I had a cichlid live out of his tank for atleast 8 hours, they're a great fish, good luck with your endeavorer
aint noo way any fish besides a catfish can survive breathing air for 8 hrs but nice try

Ive only seen it with pleco's. I had an RD jump and couldnt have been out more than 10 minutes as he was still wet when I found him. He was D.O.A.
