One or two?

This thread is for opinions only right now as I haven't made a firm decision. The plan is to get another Oscar with perhaps some small non cichlid tankmates (barbs maybe).

OR two oscars? I'm struggling to not bite off more than I can chew with that. OR an oscar and one chocolate.

The setup: 225 currently housing one ~8" parrot, one 9" syno, one 5+" red rainbow and one ~5" hrp.

For high activity barbs maybe cherry, dennison or odessa. Or even giant danios. Doing a different approach this time around.

Another idea is another pulcher, more wild type. I still have some stuff to do before I can concentrate on the new community.

If two oscars, what 2 colors (red off the table) that would look good together?

Those barbs seem snack sized for an oscar. Dawkinsia assimilis, rohani, or filamentosa are nice sized and may do well. Only problem is they’re brutal on plants if you still wanted live plants. Had to rehome a group of filament barbs since they voraciously ate all my plants, including anubius, which I didn’t think possible. Beautiful fish otherwise.

I like the idea of the Chili Red O and the Chocolate both kind of gentle giants

You've done both the oscar and chocolate already, both have given you a lot of pleasure, and heartache.

If you plan on doing something similar I'd seriously think about a pair of chocolates this time, and give the much more predatory oscars a miss. Chocs would be far more tolerant of tank mates too!

A load of us on here would follow your breeding progress, and boy, the colour morphs you had with Bobo would pale into insignificance once your pair started getting it on.

Of course you'd have to begin with a few small juvies and wait for a pair to hook up. It would be quite a project.

It’s a disease… we all have it. I ran out of space for more tanks but looking forward to yours
