I came home from work yesterday to find one my Discus huddled in the back of the tank all black, when I finally got him to come out I saw he had a distinct white ahh abrasion? I dont really know what to call it, but the other discus were staying close with him, but now they are keeping their distance.

I have done a water test and the Nitrite levels were through the roof, I've cut back the food but dont know what else to do. Anybody know what it could be on the poor little fella? :(

Ah never mind, 90% sure now its Columnaris. The spots became thicker rather quick and its deffs Columnaris.

did you mean nitrates? if it's nitrites then something is very wrong and needs to corrected like right now before you lose all the fish.

Nah nitrite unfortunately. I've done three 50% water changes and I am in the process of filling up another as I type. I tested it the water again before and the amonia is still 0, as is the nitrate. The Nitrite is coming down. (On the API tester), It was a very deap purple, but now resembles a .25PPM - 1PPM. So I will continue to do this until the water quality comes good.

I am also trading my LFS for all the fish in the tank minus the Discus and catfish. So hopefully that helps. Other than that what else would you recommend I do?

sounds like your tank is going through a cycle. discus will not take any amount of nitrites for long. I would do very large wc's every day and hope for the best. you must also find out what caused your tank to start another cycle. did you clean all your filter media at once?

Nah thats the thing I have no idea. I've did things the same way as I always do.
I have removed all fish besides the discus, catfish and - 3 neon tetras, 1 dwarf gourami, 1 widow... couldn't bloody catch them.

The nitrites are down very low now which is pleasing but hoping tomorrow when I test the water it is all good. I have done five 50% WC's. But its so stressful, the discus in talk, I have had for a while and basically hand feed :(

I have gotten Protozin medication from the LFS and am medicating the tank now for the disease. Hopefully all goes well. He looks on his death bed though, doing sommersaults and scratching over rocks and stuff, also has a little fin rot. Puffed eyes too. Hopefully he comes good. The other discus are also black and looking worse for wear. No signs of any disease though which is good.

Well lost him :( Found him before not breathing.

One of the other discus has signs of the disease now, I am still treating the water with Protozin but I don't think it is working too well. I am continueing to do WCs but I'm not confident in him or the others surviving. All this and I still have no idea how the water quality has deteriorated so badly. The Nitrites are not rising which is good, but I don't see what else I can do.
