Help i want to have an online fish business in NJ but segrest farms wont let you order without a license? How do i obtain one?

Call them up and ask. I am sure they know how to get one. You can also find somebody that works at a petshop and give them $50 to get you the stores dealer Id #.

Haha, Thats an interesting answer....first the wholesaler is not going to know the individual state laws, and the second suggestion is very illegal.

You would have to register a small business through the state and IRS. Tough business though, also run the risk of the big stores blackballing you if you compete, as they can easily call there suppliers and ask that they do not sell to you.

Business is always a risk, well that's money talk. But I think if you have good fish to offer, trustworthy suppliers, and a well established place such as MFK to sell on to, you're gonna have a decent sale or so.

The logistics of starting a small business (assuming non-corp, sole proprietorship) in NJ are not that complicated. Making any money doing it is a completely different proposition :-)

The legal info & variable options can all be found here:
http://www.nj.gov/njbusiness/starting/

Perhaps more important than any of the above, do you have a business plan? It's only my opinion but I wouldn't invest a dime or any time at this until you do

Good luck, hope the info helps

* One note of warning, if you run a non-incorporated small business (sole proprietor, partnership, etc.) chances are you will eventually get audited by the IRS. Get a good accountant & don't panic when they call and its not as scary as it sounds.
