Do a lot of you buy fish on line? I live in a small town and have to pet stores to choose from. Petco and and a local one. I'm interested in cichlids and these stores have a limited selection but from what I've seen on the web shipping is crazy.

When I lived in the states I orderd a decent amount of fish online, But if your LFS has this fish you want and they are of good quality, you might as well support them.. For anything special you can place an order online.. Your LFS should be able to special order fish for you as well, so if you talk to them about the fish you want, they should be able to give you a price and a date of when it should arrive. I have ordered from liveaquaria and aquascapeonline and I was very happy with everything I recieved. I'm sure others have bought fish from alot more vendors on here so they could tell you more.
As an LFS worker and manager, I can tell you special ordering is often difficult, depending on how the fish are ordered. If it's from a wholesaler, then it may be possible to get a few of a certain species. But if they're ordering direct from wild suppliers or fish farm like we do, then it's more difficult as the LFS can't order small quantities. Like say you want a few shell-dweller cichlids, we might not want to order them as we'd have to get 50, and they don't sell well. It's easier to order bigger, more expensive fish as the suppliers will often send just one.
If you're gonna do a shipped order, either order a lot of fish to make the shipping worth it, or split the order with some other people.
