While cleaning out this old hex tank I had laying around I was trying to think of a good way to put it to some use. Two things came to mind. First, use it as a sump to hold more water capacity for my 125g, or secondly and better yet, use it as a ]\/[onster fish feeder. I dont think anything like this has been done yet on MFK. Check it out. If I set this tank up for a pair of breeding fish and construct a water highway small enough that only the small wigglers could get thru, theoretically, it could work. The juvies could travel from the breeder tank to the dinner tank. Continuous breeding would naturally replenish the population, plus, I'd be getting quality feeders. What do you guys think? Can it be done?
Another thought along the same lines could be to setup a large sponge filter and eventually work the BB up to handle an extremely large quantity of feeders, QT them for a month, and then open up the water highway and skip the breeding fish idea.

Interesting idea....how would you link the two tanks?

Reminds of how people breed snails in there sumps and they get released and eaten as they crawl back into the tank.

intersting idea, but what wouldn't stop all the feeders from being idiots and going to their early deaths

well you can get a lift pump and build a tube between the two tanks...

but the usual way to do this is to piggyback a smaller tank to the bigger one and drill holes, the holes keep the breeders in(usualy guppies or mollies) and in mostly total darkness, and the fry/juvies swim towards the light of the tank and to certain death.

Haha... I did that with my cricket setup.

i was thinking convicts. the breeding pair would be too large for the bridge that linked the two tanks.

If you could raise the hex up to the same level as your 125
You could just make a pvc siphon U shaped
And pump water out of 125 into hex feeders will be sucked out via siphon tube
I have done this with 2 10gallon tanks 1-2 feeders would get sucked through everyday

yea this would be a good idea becaus i dont think the babies would go up the pipe by themselves! what would be their motivation to leave the parents!:screwy:
