oo male and oO female?

question for ya. i always read that most of the time oo is male and oO is female but everytime i try to vent my fish i can see oo on some but the others are o and then a oval behind it. would the oval be the same as the larger O your talking about. cause if thats the case most of my fish are female. Im still trying to get this venting down so im 100 percent sure on sexing my fish. thx
 
It works better for old world cichlids than it does for new world.
For new world cichlids I've found that many times the goods are further away from the anal fin on one sex and closer to the anal fin on the other, but I always forget which is which. :(
I'm still trying to figure out an easier way to sex a freakin rd/midas.
A good while back I posted pictures of several species' vents (a straight on view) on several boards. Most folks, even some well respected and well known members, got them wrong when the fish actually started spawning. So today, I am actually still quite confused.
 
Males have the breeding tube like to writing end of a ball point pen. Females have a more stubby, stocky one. sometimes it may not even protude all the way out.
