Okay so I pulled a rookie move ? and left a tub of bio bricks outside. I sold my 220 and kept the bricks. Unfortunately forgot to put them in the shed so they have sat out in the rain and cold for almost a month. Some of the bricks had green algae growing on them and a lot of dirty rain. I have since washed it all off and sanded all the green and dirt away.

Can the bricks be saved by cleaning them further, treating them in any way. I would like to use them but want to make sure they will be safe going into the next aquarium.

What are your all’s thoughts?
clean and reuse - if so how?
or just pitch it and call it a lesson?

Since biomedia is just a surface for bacteria to grow on.....
Its ironic, I'm looking at a bio block that's been sitting outside for about 2 years, behind a tank, in the rain, that I had forgotten about, but it caught my eye while rummaging around the other day.
I gave it a little hose down, and it chucked in the sump.

I'd worry if I spilled gasoline on it, or sprayed it with toxic chemicals.

I'd have given them a good scrub and rinse and used them. Sanding off the algae seems excessive, it's not like they won't be seeing algae in use.
