So I woke up the other morning to find that my 13 inch male Jag and 8 inch female loiselli bred. Some of the eggs appear to be unfertilized, but some are. This is in an 8 ft 240 gallon. So far they are keeping to their 1/3 of the tank and letting everyone else be on the other side. Does anyone have experience keeping an active breeding pair successfully in a cichlid community? Am I going to have to get rid of one to make it work? Also, I am thinking of culling most of the fry, but keeping a few to see how they turn out. Anyone had this mix before? Here is a pic.

HAHA funny because my male dovii and ffemale loisellei just paired up and are courting eachother hahaha... What a coinkydink haha

SWEET i had the same pairing in a 180g only opposite sexes. and to answer your question in general you shouldnt keep them with the other fish but that depends on a bunch of factors.

how many other fish are there(what kind/size) etc. etc.

mine did fine... 9inch male loi and 8 inch fem jag with 2x5inch cons 7inch JD

you might need to watch out for the jags aggression as they can be straight wife beaters at times.

hope that helps and GRATS!:headbang2

my Freddy and Jag Combo are usually ok except when breeding. sometimes they will just pick out one fish (channel cat) and be straight bullies, I have a divider in place for every 6 weeks or so to protect the catfish. Really depends on the fish though, some will just kill and others will be alright, just watch carefully nothin worse than a fish killing another if it could have been prevented.

i don't think you should have other fish in the same tank @ the moment.Jag's don't tolerate any fish close to there young.I suppose it depends on your Jag some might not kill of other fish in the tank and others might..Good luck.
i would keep some of the babys to see what they look like you can always feed them to anoter predator fish when they are bigger.

At what point can I remove the fry safely?
