A little place called C At Hell
Hello,

Please excuse the pix, they are from a cell phone and I have 0 photography skillz.

I have a 125g dwarf pike tank, with a red jewel and neon blue jewel that are supposed to be target fish. As you can see from the attached pictures, they decided to spawn. Dont dither fish know they arent supposed to spawn!?

Anyways, does anybody have knowledge of the aggression level of jewel cichlids during breeding? The eggs looks white in the pictures, but they are a darker color and blend in very well with the rocks they are attached to. I'm more worried about my pike than the jewel cichlids, and would not be happy with either the mom or the dad if they thrash on my pike.

Moving them to a different tank wont work, because I only have the 125g. Any suggestions, advice, or info is greatly appreciated.

i would assume there like most other cichlids and will defend them eggs/wrigglers/free swimmers no matter what it takes

jewels can get really aggressive , if the pikes are small you may have a problem. in that size tank a divider might work real well for you.

the tank is big enough. they will basicly chase the pike off. id be more concerned about the fry. eventualy the pike will eat all of them. the jewels will try to protect the fry but i still give the upperhand to the pike depending on his size. very sneaky and will continue to go for those babies. i agree with a divider being your only choice next to relocating.

4 regani pike, which I've been trying to get to breed.

The snails, crabs, and plecos are probably more dangerous right now, but if the eggs hatch then I may just have to relocate the pair of jewels and their babies. My daughter will freak if I leave the fry in that tank to survive by their own means.

Thanks for the advice.
