Found a blood parrot with its tail docked among a shipment of Jelly Bean Parrots at a LFS today. The owner thought it was born like that. I knew better. Bought it for 5 dollars because I felt bad for it and he didn't want it forever. He figured they would never sell it. Was I wrong? It's not like it was ordered and I sure didn't do it. It is a cool fish! Has a hell of an attitude and chasing a green terror of his size around. I never thought I'd want one but. . . . .

Yeah they are dyed and some even tatooed. It makes them more appealing to the public therefore bigger sales and more money. It is cruel and shortens the life span of the fish. Same with tail docking. They cut the tails off when very young. It gives the body shape of a heart and sold as "love parrots".

That's disgusting! Never seen anything like that at any LFS that I go to.

I went to a LFS and the guy told me they're fine like that and that his males and females always have viable fry. I go even the males? He goes yeah male blood parrots never have a problem reproducing. I left the store almost immediately haha
