I just noticed what looks likes an open sore on one of my polys. Probably caused by the underlying water quality issue that's also at the root of the mite problem I posted about recently but I thought I'd start a separate thread for faster responses.

Of the antibiotics listed in the sticky on poly diseases, I have access to kanamycin in the form of Seachem KanaPlex and iodine. I can't find any info on how to use the iodine though. Swab full strength or diluted? Should I try salt first or go straight for the KanaPlex? And should I treat the whole tank (it'll be a preventative measure for the other poly in there) or move the affected one into a smaller tank? I don't want to stress him by moving him to a different environment unless it's necessary.

Any advice would be much appreciated, as always.

Would do some salt at 1tsp per gallon and improve ur water quality. The polys should recover w/o any need for meds. They heal quick. But make sure the water is pristine and fish are eating.

He's eating really well. That's how I noticed. He's made himself a hollow in the sand at the back of the tank and spends all day there, only comes out when he's hungry.
I'll do a big water change right now, add salt and raise the temperature. Anyone else want to chip in?

Gotcha. Thanks for such quick responses!
Just did a 60% water change.
My API aquarium salt directs 1/2 tsp. per gallon so that's how much I added right now. Should I raise it to 1 tsp. per as you've recommended if the fish tolerate it?

Can raise it to 1 tsp per gallon. It’s a one time deal so stimulate some slime coat production.
