Hey I have a question regarding the 75 I have at the foot of my bed. It has a fully mature Red Devil/Midas along with a few giant danios. I prefer to sleep with my window open year round. In the winter I only crack it about an inch but when the weather is dropping below freezing every night it has a significant effect on the temperature of the room. During the summer months this obviously had no effect on the tank but now that its getting cold I have noticed that when I wake up in the morning the temp has dropped to around 77.1-77.5 from where it usually is 78.5-79 and then climbs back up to normal through out the day. Can this be causing unforeseen problems that I am not noticing because it doesn't seem to have any effect at all?

not a big enough temp change... water in ponds cange with the day/night a few degrees don't worry about it.. it's a 1.5 degrees....lol now if it were like 10 degrees i'd say you have a problem on your hands...

stress on your heater
larger power bill
if it drops too fast / too much your fish will go into shock and die.

I didn't even think about the power bill it had been getting outrageous lately and that's probably why.

You should wrap the back and sides with a blanket, or what ever you want.

Also, rocks and such should help moderate the temp of your tank

Insulating the tank with blankets could help, but the rocks will not help moderate the temp of the water. Water has a much higher specific heat capacity than rocks... aka it takes longer for water to heat up and cool down than rocks.

It's a degree and a half, don't sweat it.

You guys do know in nature that there are seasons, albeit less notable in the equator regions, they do have a winter. I bet the water that the fish normally are in could and probably does drop down into the lower 70's and at times the upper 60's! lol...

So far my power has been off for hours, and the tank temps have dropped down to the lower 70's at times. I have not lost a fish, and none have had any ill efffects due to the temp drops.

Your power bill on the other hand might be suffering to maintain the 80 set temp of your heaters...
