got a friend who has a silver, no idea how old it is really and ive only seen it a couple of times....the story is my friend is planning to relocate and he plans to leave his fish with me or my brother. the problem is his silver has got one upturned gill plate, not that severe but i estimate it needs to be operated on quickly. i have no previous experience with this and i really dont know how i could put the fish to sleep when operating....what meds to use, etc. once i got this step figured i guess i can take it from there. help guys.....

Try to get a product named Transmore which should be widely available here in Asia. It's made by a co. called Nika.

transmore or clove oil pare... be careful on dosing. use lesser than suggested amount. drip it slowly at a time till u see fish gets drowsy. then n take it from there. gl! take care pare.

I did the operation before. I still have some left over tranq. Can't remember the name at the moment. When I get home I will post the name of the med I used, and the links I followed to get all the info.

ok, thank you for the suggestions. and yeah, what's clove oil and its dosing? could i get that transmore from petshops?

ive also read about MS-222 crystals for sedation. can anyone enlighten me on this one?

Ms-222 & Finquel are the same product. I must admit seeing my prize aro go belly up (sleep) was very nerve racking.:WHOA:

I tried to use a few powerheads for the aro to swim against the current in hopes it would flatten on its own. But from when I got the aro it was to late for an easy fix. An operation was the olny way.

Remember it is not a sure thing if the membrane will grow back. If it does, it may curl again.

When I did my aro, one side grew back perfect and the other side had a little curl left over. I was going to do another OP. but she jumped out of the tank and died before I hade the chance.

kriztu you have PM

usually caused by dirty water, clean water will cure gill curl to an extent... My aro had gill curl going on due to dirty water, i fixed some things and its starting to flatten out again

Operation should be a very last resort for severe cases.

really, i thought it cant be reversed? thank you for all your help guys. will try to see what i can do on this one....
