I stopped by a LFS today and looked at their tank of red devils. As you can see, I have orange red devils. The tank at the store was being ruled by a 2" red devil that was almost white (very light orange), with barely visible lt. blue markings on the tail. All other fish, in the tank, were the classic orange color.

Naturally, I want to see what it will grow in to. What do you think?

All fish in this "complex" (Midas, RD, Midas based FH's like mine) are totally unpredictable as to color. They go through several, a few, or many color changes through their life - while they are growing, at least.

One of my FH's started out like a Texas, "shed that pattern" became translucent white, totally, and now is becoming a black fish. The second FH is also translucent white, but is now starting to show some dark coloration underneath the white, as well as orange. No telling what they'll do.

My baby Midas was pumpkin orange, and in the last 3 weeks, he has had black on his lips and fins, which are gone now, then he turned yellowish, and now he's pumpkin orange again, with a bluish tail.

This is what I love about these fish - You just never know!

Thanks. I wanted to make sure that I was'nt passing on a fish with great potential. I guess you just never know.

By the way, nice blue markings on the fins Balton.

I have a 12inch Midas and he is an amazing fish, computer is right next to his tank, as soon as I sit down he comes to me and doesnt leave until I get up. Staring at him right now!!!

yeah there really is no way of telling how a RD?Midas will be colored when adulthood is reached. Most end up orange/yellow but you never know. If you have room for another and want another one then go for it
