To all the ATF keepers, if you could only have one, which would it be and why???

Just do a search in the photo lounge, it's under monster something Lol.
+1 for Vittatus and then +1 more Lol
Jmo, to each their own :D

I had to own both in order to understand why, you should do the same ;)
 
vittatus just look soo much better imo and dont get as big
 
i was in same boat took west1's advice got the vatf and couldnt be happier
 
hi just.. i just want to ask whats the meaning of VATF, GATF, ATF etc... i know they are tiger fishes but what is there exact name?? thanks sorry for the dum dum question..hehehe

VATF : Vittatus African Tigerfish.

GATF : Goliath African Tigerfish.

ATF : African Tigerfish.

I've kept several vittatus and two goliaths.

For my money goliath, is the more impressive fish, much heavier head structure, bigger more prominent teeth. You'd be hard pressed to find a 30"+ specimen in capivity. Of the two I had 1 was difficult to get off live food. The other took Hikari pellets fairly quickly. Unfortunately both died. First got chewed up in the impellar of a powerhead and the second died because my electricity tripped during the cold weather we had in Feb and i was in work for 48hrs.

Vittatus, still a very impressive fish at the size I grew mine to (14"). Very pretty and very active. It's easier to house, just make sure your tank is 96x30"+ wide min IMO.

Just wait to see a big one eat in person :drool:! IMO, there is no other freshwater fish eat like ATF's do :D
