Well, since the males grow so large, I think the main reason more people don't keep them is that theyrequire such a big tank. What size tank do you have for them?
It all depends on how you take care of them... Tank size, frequency of water changes, diet is the basic part. like there could be 3 different people who buy from the same batch and all trhee will have different outcomes. But generally you will love the colors and personality of them. they can be shy at smaller sizes but quickly come out of their shell around 10" and they grow fast so it wouldnt take long
I don't understand why you would keep such a large growing fish and not have the goal of making him grow to his full potential? There's a handful of other members of the genus that look great and don't get nearly as large...
Beautiful fish, nasty temperament, very large size... better have the tank space to accomodate it, and be prepared to live with it possibly not having any tankmates.
