I absolutely hate the lighting on my 180 which is Home Depot shop lights with aquatic bulbs. I have a question what's the drawbacks if any of metal halide lighting on freshwater tanks. Yes I want super intense lights and I know about the power they use but I would run them 3-4 hours a day.

I was on Craigslist saw some good deals on metal halide lights and just want to know what you guys think. Would it harm my bass

Most freshwater fish live in murky water. The lights on tanks are generally for our viewing pleasure and not for the fish. They don't need too much light. MH lights would be overkill IMO. Why not get some nice LEDs. They are good on power, heat, and the bulbs practically last forever. Whatever you decide to do, don't forget to post some pics for us to enjoy. Thanks.

The aquatic/plant bulbs from HD give off a red hue. I had one on one of my tanks. Even swapping it out with a decent daylight bulb might do the trick for you. Good luck.
